Lake Natron:

Is a salt lake located in northern Tanzania, close to the Kenyan border, in the eastern branch of Africa’s Great Rift Valley.

Lake Natron is always associated with Lesser Flamingos, but that is only part of the story. What we do know is that 65% of all Lesser Flamingos on earth are born at Lake Natron, so clearly this is an important breeding area for this enigmatic species. The current global population is approximately 2-3 million birds.

In addition to Lake Natron being a globally important site for Lesser Flamingo, the lake basin (mainly the wetland sites along the edges) also supports over 100,000 individuals of other water bird species, including large numbers of migrant species.   In addition to Lesser Flamingo, another nine water bird species have been recorded within 1% of their total global population limits making the lake and Important Bird Area (IBA).

Lake Eyasi:

Is a seasonal shallow endorheic salt lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley at the base of the Serengeti Plateau, just south of the Serengeti National Park and immediately southwest of the Ngorongoro Crater in the Crater Highlands of Tanzania. The alkaline water of Lake Eyasi attracts different species of birds including large flocks of pink hued flamingo.

On the shores of this lake that tends to dry-up during dry seasons live the Bushmen-the Hadzabes tribe. Their social and economical way of life will always leave tourists with a thousand questions with a lot to speak of at their way back. Blacksmiths and hunting are the most interesting activities that a good number of tourists do learn from this tribe.
